To make your own fabric softener at home, simply mix together six parts water, three parts white vinegar, and two parts hair conditioner into one solution. Once you're done mixing, use ½ cup of the solution for every load of laundry during the rinse cycle to soften your clothes and to keep them static-free.

For a simpler method, you can make a solution out of baking soda and white vinegar. For an even simpler method, you can simply add about a ½ cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. Notice a key ingredient that all of the methods have in common?

If your clothes are still a little staticky after washing and drying, you can immediately repel static from your clothing by running them through a metal hanger.
